unrestrained-chaos:

”Þú ert hugrakkur lítill manna, er það ekki?

a beast stood before her, one that she was not hunting
but merely stumbled upon. even in its foreboding presence,
the shieldmaiden stood tall, light upon her feet, wary & ready.
her grip tightened around the hilt of her blade at her waist
poised to unsheathe it if necessary while her shield served
as a proper barrier between them.

❝ hugrekki mitt keppinautur þessi af hverjum manni. ❞

victory had been achieved, Kattegat falling to its
rightful governance once more with Ragnar at the
helm & Aslaug seated at his side. the twinge of stale
blood remained woven with the small breeze that
caressed flaxen locks as hands have not done in so
long, the recent sacrifice still a potent memory in the
forefront of her mind. pride may swell in the shieldmaiden’s
chest at her son’s growth, how his path appears just as
blessed as his father’s but it is the crippling nature of the
blow his absence will cause her joy to be short-lived.

comfort could only be sought in the company of one
woman she was bound to, not by blood —- by circumstance.
almost sisterly affection would seep from Lagertha’s pores
in Siggy’s presence, especially when her state of mind
required a more humble state of company rather than
the crowded hall just yards away. knuckles rapping against
the door would mark her arrival, awaiting entry as it
        would be granted.
